North Carolina Car Buying Calculators

North Carolina generally charges Highway Use Tax (HUT) on titled motor vehicles instead of ordinary vehicle sales tax. Choose a calculator for a supported tax, title, registration, dealer-fee, or purchase-cost estimate.

Tag & Tax Together

Vehicle property tax is separate from HUT and DMV registration fees

North Carolina bills annual vehicle property tax with registration through Tag & Tax Together. The property-tax amount depends on the vehicle's locally assessed value and the applicable county and municipal tax rates, so these calculators do not insert an average or guessed amount.

For a newly purchased vehicle, the owner may defer the property-tax payment for up to 60 days after titling and registration. The actual bill is determined by the local tax office, not by the state HUT calculation.
