Residence-based tax and weight-based registration

Vehicle sales tax follows the purchaser's New York taxing jurisdiction. Ordinary private passenger registration uses DMV's two-year weight schedule, with separate county vehicle use-tax and MCTD rules.

Each tool states its boundaries. Commercial vehicles, motorcycles, trailers, leases, penalties, and unusual exemptions remain outside the supported calculations.
