Government costs
What Florida TTL Includes
Florida TTL combines separate government charges rather than one statewide flat fee. The calculator can include:
- 6% Florida state motor vehicle sales tax
- Purchaser-county discretionary sales surtax
- The supported ordinary electronic title amount
- Weight-based private automobile registration
- The $225 Initial Registration Fee and $28 new plate fee when applicable
Dealer documentation fees, optional protection products, loan interest, down payments, and other financing costs are not automatically government TTL.
Itemized method
How Florida Tax, Title and License Are Calculated
Tax
The taxable selling amount includes the vehicle price and supported taxable additions, less a qualifying trade-in. Florida state tax is 6%. County discretionary sales surtax uses the purchaser's residence county and generally applies only to the first $5,000.
Title
The selected ordinary electronic, no-lien title path determines whether the supported amount is $77.25, $75.25, or $85.25.
Registration and plate
Private-auto registration depends on net weight and term. The calculator separately decides whether the $225 Initial Registration Fee and $28 new metal plate fee belong in the estimate.
Supported title paths
Florida Title Fees
- Original title for a new vehicle (MCO): $77.25
- Used vehicle already titled in Florida: $75.25
- Vehicle previously titled or registered outside Florida: $85.25
The out-of-state path includes an additional statutory amount, which is why it differs from an ordinary Florida title transaction. These figures cover the supported ordinary electronic, no-lien paths. The $77.25 original new-vehicle amount includes the $2 Lemon Law fee; do not add that fee a second time.
Fast title, paper-title delivery, lien recording, rebuilt inspection, and late-title penalties are not included.
Why totals differ
Initial Registration Fee and Plate Cost
Two buyers can purchase vehicles for the same price and still receive different Florida TTL estimates. A buyer with an eligible Florida plate to transfer may avoid both a new metal plate charge and the supported $225 Initial Registration Fee path.
A buyer without a qualifying plate may owe the $225 fee and need a $28 plate. Selecting “Not sure” keeps either amount outside the exact total and identifies it as a possible fee.

Florida TTL questions
Frequently asked questions
What does TTL mean in Florida?
TTL commonly means tax, title, and license. It groups several government charges for a vehicle transaction; it is not one single Florida fee.
How much are tax, title and license fees in Florida?
The amount depends on the taxable selling price, purchaser county, title path, vehicle net weight, registration term, plate status, and whether the Initial Registration Fee applies.
Is Florida’s $225 Initial Registration Fee included in TTL?
It is included when the supported ordinary transaction has no qualifying Florida plate available to transfer. It is not added to every estimate.
How much is a Florida vehicle title?
The supported original new-vehicle electronic title is $77.25, including the $2 Lemon Law fee. A Florida-title transfer is $75.25. The supported out-of-state prior-title amount is $85.25. Optional or special title services are excluded.
Does my county affect Florida vehicle tax?
Yes. The purchaser's residence county determines the discretionary sales surtax rate. That county portion generally applies only to the first $5,000 of taxable value.
Are dealer fees included in Florida TTL?
Dealer documentation and optional seller charges are not government TTL. A dealer-required charge can affect the taxable selling amount when Florida treats it as taxable, but it remains separate from title and registration fees.
