The Illinois EV registration fee adds $100 to the ordinary $151 annual passenger registration. That produces a supported 2026 registration total of $251 for a battery-electric passenger vehicle. A standard first-issued passenger plate is already included in the ordinary registration path.

How the $251 Illinois electric-car registration cost is calculated

The Secretary of State lists $151 for ordinary passenger registration and an additional $100 for a battery-electric vehicle. The extra charge does not replace the base registration; the two amounts are added together.

$151 passenger registration + $100 battery-EV addition = $251 supported total

The standard first passenger plate is already included

The normal first-issued passenger plate is part of the ordinary registration path. The engine therefore adds $0 as a separate Illinois EV plate fee for a standard plate.

Vanity, personalized, specialty, replacement, and other nonstandard plate charges can differ and are not included in the $251 estimate.

How the verified engine treats each powertrain

The engine applies the $100 addition only to the battery-electric selection. It does not extend that charge to another powertrain without official support.

Illinois ordinary passenger registration by powertrain
PowertrainBase registrationEV additionSupported total
Gasoline or diesel$151.00$0.00$151.00
Conventional hybrid$151.00$0.00$151.00
Plug-in hybrid$151.00$0.00$151.00
Battery electric$151.00$100.00$251.00

Gasoline, diesel, and conventional hybrids remain on the $151 path. The existing verified PHEV handling also returns $151 because the source applies the additional charge to battery-electric vehicles.

The live Illinois registration engine returns $251.00 for the supported ordinary battery-electric passenger path.
