Georgia Vehicle Registration Fee Calculator

Georgia's standard passenger registration is $20 per year, with a $5 eligible existing-plate transfer path. BEVs also owe the current annual AFV fee; PHEV treatment depends on plate choice.

Registration estimate

BEVs owe the annual fee either way. PHEVs owe it only when electing an AFV plate.
Transfer requires a valid existing Georgia plate of the same class. A new AFV plate may add a one-time manufacturing fee.

The standard Georgia passenger registration is $20 per year

The ordinary passenger-car registration/plate fee is $20 annually. An eligible transfer of an existing valid Georgia plate of the same class costs $5 instead of the new-plate fee. Georgia registration renews annually; this estimate does not offer multi-year terms.

Battery-electric vehicles owe the applicable annual alternative-fuel vehicle fee even with a standard plate. For July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, that fee is $238.59. A plug-in hybrid owes it only if its owner elects an alternative-fuel plate; a conventional non-plug-in hybrid is not in that path.

The AFV plate’s fees are different from the alternative-fuel annual licensing fee: the AFV plate adds a one-time $25 manufacturing charge and a $35 annual special-tag fee, plus the $20 annual registration and the AFV fee when applicable. See the Georgia EV registration fee guide.

What is outside this estimate?

Specialty, personalized, commercial, heavy-weight, emissions-test, insurance-lapse, and county-specific service charges are not included. The $238.59 amount applies only during the listed 2026–27 fee year and can change under the statutory adjustment process.

Common registration mistakes

  • Adding $238.59 to the wrong fee year or treating it as the AFV plate charge.
  • Assuming every PHEV must use an AFV plate; DOR allows the regular-plate choice.
  • Counting the $25 plate manufacturing charge every year instead of once.
  • Using the $20 new-plate amount when an eligible existing same-class Georgia plate is transferred for $5.
